If that sounds a bit dull, bear in mind that corporate banking is a key profit center for many large banks and has been rising in prominence since the financial crisis showed up the more speculative activities of trading and investment banking, thus making the idea to become a corporate banker seem much desirable in the present times.

In terms of travelling as an investment banker for work, travel usually depends on which part of the investment bank, your client base (more s&t) and your level of seniority. As an institutional equity salesperson, i personally travel for a total of one week out of every month. Like most people below the upper echelons, most full on global travel is infrequent as you will be locked into a regional client base. This means unless you're a huge dealmaker in ibd or the head of global sales/research at a broker, you're probably not travelling the globe.

How To Become an Investment Banker

Job descriptions november 15, 2013

for many, a banker’s job seems like the most ideal career in the world, as it involves handling other people’s money. However, it involves far more than simply safeguarding the cash entrusted to the banker and attaching a percentage for services rendered. Bankers are the mediators for investors and those who wish to sell their investments. When bankers accept deposits from a customer, they reinvest the amount in higher yield debt and equity instruments. They investigate the credit risk of customers applying for a loan. Bankers are responsible for establishing solid customer relationships, the planning and delivery of sales strategies or products and monitoring their progress.

for those interested in a wall street career, there are a number of roles that could be of interest, including trader , analyst , and investment banker. Many want to be investment bankers, drawn by the high-profile and handsome salaries these jobs offer. So what do investment bankers do?.

Brian dechesare, of the "mergers and inquisitions" investment banking website, breaks m&a banker work down into two major categories. Sell-side m&a bankers work with companies wanting to sell themselves or merge with other companies for various reasons. In some cases, companies wanting to be acquired or to merge are seeking to avoid bankruptcy or other financial distress. Regardless, a sell-side m&a banker works to bring companies wanting to sell out or merge to likely prospects, in the process putting together all deal particulars.

A banker is an individual who advises their clients with regard to financial matters. Duties concerning savings, loans, taxes, investments, and securities are all within the job realm of a banker. The banker will provide financial assistance to the client in accordance with their required needs.

Hi! my name's matt. I write about the financial industry for a site called dealbreaker. Before that, i made a living as an investment banker, underwriting convertible bonds and other equity-linked securities and selling equity derivatives to corporate clients. (i know!)

at dealbreaker i mostly write for an audience of financial industry professionals, the sort of people who would understand (but probably not read) that job description i just wrote. But since these days the workings of the financial industry are of broader interest, the planet money team thought it might be fun for me to occasionally answer questions here about how finance works. We'll start with some generic questions; if you have questions you'd like me to answer, please email planetmoney@npr. Org and write "ask a banker" in the subject line. Or ask on twitter (@planetmoney).

There are too many confusions that what investment bankers do?

whether they work in a bank or invest in a bank or where they invest. Overall, an investment banker acts as a broker between the company and its buyer. And these people are responsible for ending business deals. It is also their job to tell their customers to buy shares of a company and when to sell the shares of which company. Here you can earn a lot of money, but in this person the person is very stressed because he has to work 100 hours a week. And as a result, his salary is also in 4 to 7 digits.
